Holiday Tips from Leah Gust of Leah Says

Last night I was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak to a wonderful group of women on how to turn regular office wear into holiday dazzle wear at an event sponsored by Ember Business Exchange. I was accompanied by three very talented and stylish women, Barbora Dudinska, who moderated the discussion, jewerly designer Karen McFarlane and Toronto-based fashion designer, Caitlin Power each offering simple solutions to make your outfit party ready.
While I tend to shy away from sparkle in my daily life if there's one time of the year to bring it out, it's the holidays. That doesn't mean you have to be a shining beacon of all things sparkly, one carefully chosen piece goes a long way.
The above pieces, for instance, will quickly transform your office get up. Switch out your regular pencil skirt for this sparkling green number. Pair it with the blouse or sweater you're already wearing and you're good to go! Too much trouble to change your skirt? Take off your blouse and switch it up with a bright (and sorta daring!) top. This gold leopard print peplum will look great with your pencil skirt. Or just add a fun topper like this silver jacket. It will add a little pop to your LBD or add some shine to an oxblood ensemble.
If a shiny garment still isn't striking you, a statement necklace from your favourite store will do the trick. Switch out your delicate daily accessories for bright and bold pieces like the one below. J Crew always has beautiful statement pieces that will add dazzle to outfits for years to come.

If the above still seem too far out of your comfort zone, opt for a texture to make your look pop. Pick up a pair of leather leggings, for example, for a quick update to your standard white blouse. Or try a velvet skirt or jacket to add a luxe dimension to your look. Or try two textures together to create a high-end look out of inexpensive pieces like I did for my feature in the Winter '14 issue of Fashion Magazine.
